This crochet top was a fun project!  I made 6 motifs, each just under 5″ in diameter.  When I joined them, the body measured 30″ around.

The strip around the top and also the straps are crocheted on the diagonal.  For some reason (?) the beginning of the strip squared up nicely when blocked, but the finishing edge remained on a 45 degree angle.  Still, it was easy enough to make it work, since crochet is not an exact science.

Any motif pattern could be used as long as it results in a good diameter.   I finished my motifs off by making them into a square, which made joining easier.

Note: I started with a ch 4.  Round3 has a little picot edge – I did a ch 2 and went thru two loops to secure it.   On Round 8, I did a ch 3 instead of ch 4.
